Michael Shirey was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. He moved to Savannah, GA in 2007, where he attended the Savannah College of Art and Design. Michael graduated cum laude in 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Afterwards, he returned to New Orleans to work for Zehnder Communications, one of the largest advertising agencies in Louisiana, where he works on a wide variety of local and national clients.
In late 2011, Michael moved to New York City and began working for NYC Community Media — where he was responsible for the art direction of six Manhattan-based news publications. During his five year tenure there, he won several awards from the New York Press Association, including First-Place Overall Design for his redesign of The Villager newspaper and Second-Place Illustration for his work in Gay City News.
In 2017, he began working for AMIT Children, an education nonprofit that focuses on leveling the playing field for students in Israel. Within his first year at AMIT, Michael elevated the organization's print media, including bringing Inside AMIT, the nonprofit's biannual magazine, in-house.
Michael is always looking to better himself and his craft. He is beyond excited to be in enrolled in SVA’s Masters in Branding program and continue to that mission.
