Changzhi Lee

Class 2011

Lee believes in old school social networking and that great things happen when people come together. He has a strong passion to pursue a career in branding through corporate theatre, environmental, exhibition, scenographic and large scale event production. As an avid researcher of mega-sporting events, music festivals, and world expositions as expressions of mega branding opportunities, he has written papers on these topics that have been published in numerous well known branding publications including:

Interbrand's Brand Channel, Rockport Publications and Harper Collins in the U.S. , Page One and The Sunday Times in Singapore, Victionary Publications in Hong Kong, Design 360 in Guangzhou, and the Creative Review Magazine Blog in the United Kingdom.

Since graduating from the Masters in Branding program at the School of Visual Arts, Lee has gone on to work at Jack Morton Worldwide, as an Associate Creative Director based in Sydney, Australia. He also had quite an adventure with secondments to the agency's London and Beijing offices in 2012.

Lee’s Success Story:

Before starting the program, Lee was a generalist & creative intern. Since graduating he is a Creative Director.

How has the program affected your career path?

The Branding program at SVA changed my view not just of the creative industry, but how to go about succeeding at it. Being part of the pioneering batch (Class of 2011) allowed me to work with some of the bravest and passionate individuals who were keen to succeed in their field. It also opened my mind to see how much more it takes to bring an idea to fruition, and how important team work is.

Debbie Millman's hands-on involvement in the day to day mentoring of her students gave the best possible insight into what it takes to do well in the world of design, and more importantly, life in general.

What types of jobs do you feel qualified for after graduating?

Any job in the communications, design and advertising industry, and perhaps even in HR consulting and personal branding.

The pioneering spirit I experienced as the first batch to graduate also built a sense of resilience in me to keep learning and growing no matter where I go or what I would like to do next.

What other career success have you had since graduating?

Besides the United States, I have since gone on to work in Australia, United Kingdom, China, and Singapore since graduating. This is all with an opportunity to work as an Associate Creative Director be at one of the world's well known experiential marketing agencies.

Many of the harder life lessons I learned at SVA while watching the branding program go through birth-pains in the early years, have aided me in facing and overcoming challenges in my first 'real' job since graduation.
